The State government on Thursday set a 15-day deadline to complete the process of forming Guarantee Committees at all gram panchayats and ward levels in Karnataka, according to Dinesh Gooligowda, the Vice Chairman of State Guarantee Schemes Implementation Committee.
The responsibility has been placed with District Collectors of the respective districts at the ward level, and with Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of respective zilla panchayats at the gram panchayat level.
If appointing chairpersons and members to the committee is not completed within the deadline, the Karnataka State Guarantee Schemes Implementation Committee himself will have the authority to appoint members.
Gooligowda said that each committee will comprise of six members. There will be one member each from the SC/ST, minority, Backward Class and General Category, as well as two women. In the case that representation is not available, a General Caste member can be appointed.
The committee will “help in reviewing the implementation of schemes at the local level as well as listening to the problems of beneficiaries and providing quick solutions,” Gooligowda said.
